Doesn't get much cuter than that

Everyday our kids do something that is so cute that I just have to laugh. Today Nanny Vopal watched them both while I took our cat to the vet. Fletcher proved to be a true handful. He threw Nanny Vopal and Pap Pap's phone in their toilet and spilled a whole glass of pop. Way to go Fletch Man. Sophia has been equally as challenging lately. She has had a cold and been very moody. I guess everyone has bad days. Sophia has been more loving to Fletcher lately and just when you think she is helping out she will say, "Fletchman loves Backyard Movie" ....meaning I really want to watch the Backyardigans. She uses him to get what she wants....Way to go Sophia. I guess that is what siblings do.......

Someone's in the Kitchen

We decided to get creative this weekend. I saw an idea for a kitchen in a box on www.familyfun.com, it is basically a cardboard box painted to look like a mini kitchen. You cut a hole and use a stainless steel bowl for a sink, you make a faucet from cardboard, you also cut out an oven and a cupboard. We started painting the box on Sunday morning, it took 3 coats of white paint. Once the paint dried it was time to paint the burners and sink handles. Overall the project took most of the morning. Sophia seems to love it, she played with it non stop. She had out all of her kitchen dishes and bowls and she was cooking up a storm. Fletcher enjoyed the pretend food. At one point Sophia was inside the kitchen. I guess all you need is a cardboard box and a little bit of imagination to have a good time.

To Brew or not to Brew

Today was a fun day for us. James finally decided to brew the beer that I got him for christmas. I was think I was more excited than he was, I have never seen beer brewed before and it was pretty interesting. It took most of the afternoon and part of the evening but I am sure in the long run it will be worth it. Now we just have to wait to try it. We let Sophia stir the pot but she thought we were making juice. Today Sophia also got to go to the Children's Museum and make edible igloo's. They were made from sugar cubes and vanilla icing. We had a got time and she thought it was pretty cool to make a "Polar Bear House". Fletcher had his first experience eating yogurt all by himself, it was exciting. More yogurt ended up in his hair than anywhere else. He has to learn somehow. Over all it was a fun day for everyone, especially James because he has a snow day and did not have to go to work!!!!!!!!!!

Sibling Love?

Finally Sophia and Fletcher are starting to play together. Sophia recently got a playhouse it has monkey's and elephant's on it and she loves to play in it. Sophia calls it the monkey house and she calls Fletcher the baby monkey. She is always trying to get him to come in the house. She loves to play with Fletcher on her terms. Today she was trying to read him books on her bed. He would not sit still and she was a little frustrated. It does seem like they are getting along a little bit better, and that makes our house a little more peaceful.

It's a Party

Fletcher had his first birthday party on February 16th at 3:00. It was a little chaotic but lots of fun. All of our family came to celebrate as well as a few friends. Sophia's friend Jake came which made her day. She loves Jake and he seems to like her too. Jake's little sister Haley, who is only 3 1/2 months old also came. Everything turned out nice, the cake was really cute and it tasted great. Fletcher had lots of presents to open and with a little help from Sophia they managed just fine. He was pretty excited about the little trucks, the rocket, and a tool set that he got. Sophia was excited about the movies that he got. Sophia had a few little things of her own to open, Grandma got her a Princess Jasmine pez dispenser which she loved, she also got a makeup set with a makeup bag. On Fletchers actual birthday Sophia and I took him swimming at the YMCA, he loved it. Sophia swam all by herself and Fletcher and I splashed together. Afterwards we went to McDonald's for his birthday lunch, and I did not hear any complaints. All in All he did pretty well for his first birthday. I am sure there will be many more exciting birthdays to come..

Cabela's

Sophia loves to go to Cabela's. She thinks the animals are real and she loves the fish. Cabela's might as well be the zoo for her. Her favorite thing is the BIG moose in the water. Everytime we go to the Highlands to go shopping she wants to stop at Cabela's and the pet store. She loves the pet store especially the mice. The pet store has a little shopping cart that is just her size and she always pushes it around and looks at all of the animals. She is sometimes reluctant to go down the snake aisle but usually she at least peeks. I cannot wait until the summer when we can actually visit the real zoo.

Fletchers Firsts

Fletchers has experienced a few firsts this week. He has really started to walk well and he is getting around alot quicker. He made his first trip down the steps by himself without falling, he also had his first experience coloring with chalk and eating it. He seemed to like eating it more than coloring with it. He also had his first real goose egg. He has not quite found his balance yet and he fell and hit the corner of the base board. We felt so bad for him, it was awful. He will also have his first birthday party this weekend. He is growing up and getting to do all sorts of new things both good and bad.

The Many Moods of Sophia

Sophia is so funny, you never know when she will just burst out laughing. Sometime she is so moody I do not know what to do with her and other times she has me laughing so hard I cannot breathe. This morning she was feeding Fletcher Ritz crackers while I was sorting laundry. She kept crumbling crackers into the dirty clothes so I told her it would make Fletcher really happy if she would go downstairs and give him a cracker. She turned to me and said, "here you go mommy (handing me a cracker), you happy now". She was so cute I had to eat the cracker. After that I was not so concerned with the crumbs in the laundry. Everyday she does something new. When our mail came today Grandma Kiger had sent Sophia a valentine. It was a Disney Princess valentine, Sophia went nuts. She said, "Oh WOW mommy a princess card Oh WOW". She was so excited, she carried it around with her all afternoon. I guess it is the little things that bring such joy.

Snow Bunny

Sophia recently had her first experience skiing. We went to Oglebay Park and she tried on the smallest ski boots and skiis I have ever seen. Her Pap Mick and I pulled her through the snow. She was having a brave day and wanted to go down the BIG hill. She absolutely loved it. It just so happened that the newspaper was there taking pictures and Sophia was photographed. Two days later James and I took her skiing again, everytime she got off the lift she would say, " One more time". Now we are just waiting for some more snow!!!!

Fletcher

Fletcher is getting so big. We went to the library today for story time and he met a little girl that is a month older than he is. He really liked her, maybe not as much as DORA, but he definately has a crush. He is going to be 1 year old next week, it is hard to believe that a year has gone by. He is now starting to walk and talk. His birthday party is next Saturday, I think he will enjoy all of the attention.

Making Materpieces

Yesterday we went to the Childrens Museum and Sophia was able to paint ceramic plates. She really enjoyed it and she made some beautiful creations. By the time we were done she had a puddle of paint on her plate. I was left with a big mess to clean up. Sophia had on her snowman apron that Nanny (grandma) Vopal gave her. She looked very professional. Fletcher stayed with Grandma Karen which was a nice break for me. Last night Aunt Tammy and I painted her upstairs bedroom and James was in charge of putting the kiddos to sleep. Aunt Tammy and I had fun even though painting is not always a fun task .
